Osteopathy is a regulated health profession, in which a system of diagnosis and treatment uses physical manipulation, stretching, and massage to improve the body's structure and function. It's based on the idea that the body's well-being depends on the smooth functioning of the bones, muscles, ligaments, and connective tissues.
The approach focuses on the body's ability to heal itself, therefore Osteopaths use a variety of techniques to increase joint mobility, relieve muscle tension, reduce pain, and improve blood supply to tissues, in order to help the body heal.
Osteopathy includes a holistic view of patient care, considering a patient's full medical history, lifestyle, and personal circumstances to tailor treatment to the individual. It may include a blend of conventional medical practices and complementary therapies and the Osteopath may also provide advice on posture and exercise to help prevent symptoms from recurring.
